Code membership arrangements
Conditions for membership
The conditions for membership are:
- fulfilling the criteria as a supplier of accommodation covered by the Unipol/AfS Code, ie off-street accommodation for shared student living (maximum occupancy of a unit set at 14 tenants)
- satisfactory outcomes to the declaration and verification processes
- payment of the relevant fees
The commitment entailed by membership
A landlord's adoption of the Code is entirely voluntary. The Codes are about accountability and members must make a declaration confirming their submission to a set of processes and their commitment to upholding a set of standards. Making a commitment to abide by the Code is a serious matter and failure to meet such a commitment is a breach of faith.
Regulation of membership
Membership of the Codes is regulated in accordance with declaration and verification procedures.
Code membership is granted for three years at a time from the date that membership is granted. Members are required to make a re-declaration every three years.
Members' compliance is tested from time to time through further verification visits. In serious cases non-compliance can result in membership being withdrawn.
The steps towards the granting and re-granting of membership have deadlines attached to them. Failure to meet these deadlines may have consequences such as delay, rejection of an application or cessation of membership.

Landlords or their agents can be accredited on a property-by-property basis or they can be accredited as landlords for all their student properties. Applicants are required to make a declaration about the relevant properties which they manage. This is also referred to as a property list.
