Bedford has a population of just under 100,000. The heart of the town is the Embankment along the River Ouse with formal gardens laid out along the banks. There are excellent sports facilities with the recent addition of a new athletics stadium and a new hockey club which attract national and international athletics as well as the long-standing facilities such as Bedford rugby Club and of course rowing on the river.
