1. Bring water, and lots of it! Dehydration can cause fatigue, and you'll want all the energy you can get.
2. Gather everything you need first. That way when you sit down to start work, you won't keep interrupting yourself to find another vitally important book.
3. Take healthy snacks. Try swapping chocolate and crisps for fruits, nuts or carrot slices. You'll feel better for it, and they'll give you more regulated energy. Plus, they're cheaper than extortionate vending machine prices.
4. Deactivate Facebook before you leave the house. You won't want the temptation to just quickly check your newsfeed before starting work.
5. Get some fresh air. Walk to the library, or head outside on your break. Or maybe plan to do something outdoors after your session? It'll help you feel refreshed and ready to tackle your next challenge!
6. Try to go with a friend...but don't distract each other! It's motivating to sit next to someone who is working hard, and to know that you won't be alone on breaks. If you're on the same course, you may even be able to help each other study.
7. Pick your location wisely. Do you need to work with a group? Or do you find noise distracting? Don't sit in a silent study area to work with others, and similarly don't go to a social cluster if last night's gossip is too distracting.
8. Plan your way home, especially if you're staying all night. At the end of the day, staying safe is more important than revising so don't miss the last bus, even if it would mean reading an extra chapter. You can always go back another day.
9. Try to sit by a window. Being close to natural light can help you feel less claustrophobic and helps to avoid cabin fever.
10. Bring some change. Sometimes a quick trip to for coffee is absolutely necessary.
11. Don't forget your packed lunch! If you plan on staying all day, it's easy to be persuaded to spend money on overpriced food in the café. Save your pennies and eat something you actually enjoy by planning your food in advance. Just make sure you don't get bored and scoff it too early!
12. Remember, some days just aren't library days. Don't force yourself to go to the library all day every day. Yes, you'll be productive for a while, but you can easily run yourself into a rut. Doing something different is motivating, will keep stress and depression at bay, and will prevent the awkward moment when your friends don't recognise you because you've hidden away for too long. You can still be productive on these days: why not take up a volunteer placement? Or try a new sport? It's coming to the end of the year, and taking part in new experiences regularly can really enhance your CV.
