Emily Whittle, our 2014 Live Rent Free winner, is coming to the end of her stay with us at Mansion Court Leicester. We had a chat with her to find out how she felt about her time with Mansion Student, her win and what she will be doing next…
Now it has had time to sink in, how are you feeling about the Live Rent Free win?
I still can’t believe I won, but its really helped me this year. I haven’t had to worry about finances and budgeting as much because of the win so I’m really happy about that. It has given me the opportunity to stay focused and concentrate on my studies. Having my own spacious room with a big desk and somewhere private to get my work done was really important, so I was really happy when I saw my room. I have just finished my dissertation, so am taking some time to relax and enjoy my last few weeks at Mansion Court before I leave.
Has your Live Rent Free stay helped you to save some money or have you spent it on extra treats?
The win has really helped me to save up. My intentions were to save for a car for when I finish my course, which I am still doing. Living so close to university has saved on my travel expenses, so that was also a huge plus. But I have treated myself a few times with the odd shopping spree. As I’ve said the relief of not having to stress over money worries has been a big help.
Have you told other people about the competition? If so what has been their reaction?
The week I won I told all of my friends and family, they were all really pleased for me. Since winning, people on my course and even my tutors have asked me about it and I always tell them about Mansion Student and how great the accommodation and the Live Rent Free competition is. It is definitely a talking point amongst friends.
Had you not won the competition to stay at Mansion Court rent free, but knowing what you know now about Mansion Student, would you still make the decision to stay with us?
I would definitely have stayed with Mansion Student regardless of winning. I was finding it really hard to get a place to suit and Mansion Court offered this. It is also so close to university, which was a key factor in me choosing it. I can get to my classes at DMU in literally 2 minutes.
Living in a shared flat with friends and other people off my course was definitely better than my other option of going back in uni halls. The flat share is great, it means I get to spend time with the people I want to and with our own kitchen and living room we get to cook what we want, watch what we want and relax after uni together. Winning the Live Rent Free competition just meant I got to stay where I wanted, with my friends, but without the burden of living costs.
The Mansion Court Hospitality Team have been really good as well. They help out with anything you need and David, The Hospitality Manager, is always around when we need him and they made me feel really welcome.
Now you are coming to the end of your stay with Mansion Student would you recommend us to anyone looking for student accommodation?
I have recommended it to everyone I could! People who ask where I stay, people who want to know about the win, I have told them all that they should log on to the Mansion Student website and enter. Even if they don’t win the competition, they get the chance to stay here.
