Student Article - student trade union.
Author: Chiedza Kurangwa
i have been working for a company for just under two years, it's one of those big corporate companies that do not take good care of its student employees. they have just established substantial growth in England and yet they have decided to downsize. as a student i was not offered a contract because my university timetable could not fit into the proposed rota. i have been given two weeks notice and will be officially reduntant on the 29th of May. on the 29th of May i would have been working for the comapny for two years and yet i am not being given any redundancy pay!!!! where is the justice in that??
if there was a student trade union then i would have people who could help or give me legal advice because i am feeling short-changed. not only was i good at my job but i enjoyed it. i think we students need to start looking out for ourselves as there is noone to do that for us.
