If you are student looking for accommodation in London, we know just how hard it may seem to find the perfect accommodation, especially if you are not from the UK. Well, the truth is that there are only very few steps and rules that you must follow if you want to find the absolute best accommodation for both your needs and budget.
Step 1: Use the AFS website to search for all available accommodation options. AFS is without a doubt the best resource available. It is completely free to use and with it you can find just about anything. You can search for accommodation based on a specific budget, location and numerous other things.
Step 2: Calculate your exact budget. This is the most important thing. Once you know just how much you can afford to pay, you can start searching. Bear in mind that the prices listed on the AFS website are per room/per week.
Step 3: Search for accommodation close to your uni. Doing this is actually incredibly easy. For each accommodation option you will find on the AFS website, you will also get the address code. Something like E1 4NS. Using this code it is more than easy to find accommodation in the same area as your uni. When you search, enter the area code(the first characters of the address code) and AFS will automatically list all the accommodation options available in that specific area. If your uni's code is E1 4NS(this is Queen Mary, University of London), only use E1, which is the area code. The first part of the code is the area code and the second is the code of the property, house or hall. There is almost always a gap(space) between these two sections of the address code.
Step 4:Once you manage to see all the accommodation options available in your uni's area that match your budget, start looking at each listing and discover which is the best for you.
Step 5:Get exact directions and transport information. Once you have found something really interesting, you can find out exactly how far it is from your uni and how long it would take you to get there every morning. Just use Google Maps for this. It's completely free and incredibly efficient, and you can even save the information so that you can view it whenever you want to.(you will need a Google Account for this). You will require the address /post code of your uni and of your accommodation option.
Tip: To find your uni's post code, look at its website and it should be available in the bottom of the website. Otherwise go to the contact section of your uni's website. Don't worry, the code will be there.
Step 6: Once you have found the perfect accommodation for you, contact its landlord. You can do this through email or phone call. Both the email address and phone number will be available in the lower section of each accommodation listing on AFS.
Tip:. Great accommodation options receive a lot of interest, so the best thing you can do is to call the landlord directly, as not everyone checks their email regularly. Calling is the fastest and safest way to do it, as it will allow you to find out everything you want to know about a certain accommodation options on the spot, without having to wait.
Tip:. Pay close attention to the details. The price of some listings will also include the bills, while for others you will have to pay your bills separately. Look closely to what the price includes, so that you can properly calculate your costs. If you are not interested in accommodation options which do not include bills, you can check the "Bills included" checkbox in the search options.
And that's about it. If you follow this small tutorial, you will find the perfect option for you in no time. Good luck!
