Student Article - Don't let your room out if you're away for a while
Author: Kenneth Evbuomwan
Recently I travelled to another country and as a student I didn't want to pay for the weeks I'd be abroad. So i decided to place my room up on Gumtree.com, added a few extra pounds so I could get a little profit out of it, don't judge me I know you'd do the same too.
So back t where I've left, so I found this guy who wanted to get my room the price I've placed it on, we agreed shook hands and a deal was made.
A few days abroad I get this FB message from a roommate saying that he was using the utilities way too much and that the bills kept on stacking up. So I did what any other reasonable person would have done, I called him and told him that he should either change the way how he was using the utilities or I'd take a small amount of money out of his security deposit.
after a long struggle I eventually needed to tak a small amount out of his deposit and all was settled.
My point here is, don't let your room to people you've never met. In case you do, be sure to make a solid arrangement with the other party, just to prevent the same situation I was in to occur again.
