    The University of Newcastle offers competitive tuition fees and provides a range of bursaries and scholarships to help students finance their education. Domestic students may be offered a Commonwealth Supported Place. The Australian government pays a portion of the tuition fee for Commonwealth supported students. The remaining amount is called the 'student contribution'. Domestic students are encouraged to read relevant information on HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP, if their offer does not specify a CSP.     The university offers a wide range of scholarships, including: ‘Student Hardship Vouchers, Student Hardship Grants, Student Placement Grants, Student Laptop grants, Student Loans and Work Development Orders (WDO).’ There are also numerous scholarships for students experiencing financial hardship, scholarships for academic and sporting excellence, as well as scholarships specifically for Indigenous and international students.
