Newcastle is the perfect city to be a student in, with over 50000 students calling it home and a very vibrant nightlife too.
Situated on the banks of the River Tyne, Newcastle is the most populous city in the North East. The two universities in the area are Newcastle University and Northumbria University. Newcastle University is a Russell Group University which won the Sunday Times University of the Year award in 2000. Northumbria University was voted ‘Best New University’ by The Times in 2005.
Newcastle sits at ninth position in the retail centre expenditure league in the UK, with several shopping areas being situated in the centre of Newcastle itself. Eldon Square shopping centre is home to many high street stores, whereas Northumberland Street is full of designer boutiques if you want to splash the cash.

There is also a wide range of restaurants dotted throughout the city as well, with cuisines ranging from American, French, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Mexican and Spanish being available.
Newcastle is also home to many festivals as well, including the Newcastle Festival of Beer which takes place every April and is organised by CAMRA. There is also a huge music festival called ‘This is Tomorrow’ which takes place annually as well.
