Things to do in Brisbane this summer

Hi, students of Brisbane! I know that summer is right around the corner, and you’re probably wondering how you’re going to spend it. Well, I’m here to give you some of the best spots to spend your summer and have the best time ever.

Culture and city life

If you’re interested in culture and city life, Brisbane has lots to offer this summer.

The Southbank Cultural Center is holding free or low-cost exhibitions at the Queensland Museum Kurilpa, Sparklab and the Gallery of Modern Art.

Brisbane is also home to the Wheel of Brisbane, which is a wheel of climate-controlled gondolas for 360-degree views of the city skyline, but remember to bring your student ID for discounted tickets!

Also, don’t forget to head out to Mulgumpin with Australian Sunset Safaris to paddle over shipwrecks in a fully transparent, LED-lit kayak after dark.

Relaxing spots

In case you’re after somewhere to relax and rewind this summer, the City Botanic Gardens are a great spot for picnics with your mates, or even just to study under the Moreton Bay figs.

Not only this, but you can also catch public transport up to the Mt Coot-the Summit Lookout for panoramic city views at sunset, and even visit the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium to explore the Cosmic Skydome, which is really cool!

Looking for something a bit different?

If you’re after something a bit more quirky, you can head over and watch the Pitch Drop Experiment, which is one of the world’s longest-running laboratory experiments at the University of Queensland, where a funnel of pitch has been slowly dripping since 1927.

Also, you could even hunt down some hidden Speakeasies. A lot of these are tucked away behind antique wardrobes, phone booths or unmarked doors, like Mrs J Rabbits in Woolloongabba or Next episode in the CBD.
