Living in Edinburgh as a student
As the capital city of Scotland with its vibrant and cosmopolitan offering, Edinburgh is a perfect place for students of its three universities: Edinburgh University, Edinburgh Napier University, and Heriot-Watt University.
Home to an extinct volcano, Calton Hill, a castle, Portobello beach, Murrayfield Rugby Stadium, as well as vintage fairs, one of the best clubbing scenes in the country and, of course, the Fringe Festival, Edinburgh is more than just a city. This sentiment is shared by many, as it is regularly voted the best place to live in the UK, but also remains the second most popular tourist destination in the UK.
As a Unesco World Heritage Site, the city is packed with history, from the impressive Edinburgh to Turkish Baths. The numerous museums and art galleries will satisfy even the most demanding art connoisseurs, whilst the countless theatres will keep them busy in the evenings. With students accounting for a good size of the local population, the city doesn’t fail to offer a plethora of nightclubs and pubs. For those who enjoy sports, there are two local football teams, Hibs and Hearts, and a thriving rugby union.
