The overview

The main things you need to know about studying at the Deakin University.

  • Rankings

QS WUR places DU at a very respectable 266th place for the 2023 ranking, an increase of 17 places since 2022, and the highest it held on record. In subject rankings it places even higher, with 6th place for Sports-Related Subjects, ex equo 194th place for Arts and Humanities, or 33rd for Nursing. THE ranks it in the 251-300 range, with very high scores for citations (83/100) and international outlook (88/100).

  • Employability

DU runs a specialised career planning service which sources opportunities, reviews resumes, offers career coaching, and provides career success workshops. The careers team says ‘We're committed to helping you become the most employable version of yourself. Using proven tools and techniques we’ll help boost your career IQ, arming you with the comprehensive knowledge you need to land that job and build a satisfying career. At Victoria’s #1 university for student support, you will get the assistance you need to succeed.’

  • Fees

The Australian government pays a portion of the tuition fee for Commonwealth supported students. The remaining amount is called the 'student contribution'. The University does not receive any government funding for fee-paying places. Students enrolled in fee-paying places contribute the full cost of their course. DU says: ‘If you are not eligible for a CSP, you will be offered a fee-paying place. The tuition fees you are charged will depend on the units you enrol in, the study discipline the units belong to and the year you commence.’ Read more here. International students are in a different situation: ‘Deakin's international tuition fees vary depending on the course and units you undertake, as well as your level of study. Our fee estimator tool can help give you a better idea of how much your studies could cost.’—says DU here.

  • Bursaries

Deakin University offers a wide range of scholarships to both domestic and international students. Some are earmarked for particular groups, are means-tested, or merit-based. Find out more here for domestic students and here for international.
