Flinders University
Established in 1966, the university was named after Matthew Flinders, one of the British navigators who explored Australia in the early 19th century. It has consistently ranked in the top 300 institutions worldwide, including in the 2022 Times Higher Education Rankings.

The Scimagoir Institutions Ranking placed Flinders University as 21st overall out of the 42 Australian universities. It also ranked 12th in Australia for Psychology and 16th for Arts and Humanities.
Employability
The university’s degrees prepare students for a variety of careers, offering students support whilst studying so they can achieve their goals. The Flinders Horizon Award is available for students who are studying at the university and gives them the opportunity to develop professional skills and recognises extra-curricular activities students have undertaken. It is a great way for students to make themselves more employable.
Fees
Fees vary for both domestic and international students. In Australia, fees are calculated per unit rather than per year. Domestic student fees depend on the topics you are enrolled in, how many topics you are enrolled in and whether you fit into the Commonwealth supported place or full fee-paying place payment category. The breakdown of fees can be found on the university’s website. For international students, undergraduate fees can vary between £11,000 to £25,000.
Bursaries
Flinders University offers some bursaries and scholarships to prospective students. These include The Development Grant, The Andrew Thyne Reid Scholarship and the Indigenous Education Placement Scholarship.
Accommodation
The university is the only South Australian university with on-campus accommodation in the Adelaide metro area. It is also located 20 minutes by bus or train from the city. Students can choose from a catered, collegiate-style hall or the self-contained units in their Deirdre Jordan Village. Living on campus gives students access to free wifi, utilities, and a Flinders Sports and Fitness pass. The accommodation is within walking distance to some campuses and has excellent transport links. With lots of open space, students can access the BBQ areas for socialising. There are also frequent events hosted by the university including games and quiz nights.

The Flinders University Student Association (FUSA) organises social events on campus such as picnics in the plaza, free brunches and more. It is free for students to join and gives students access to a range of benefits such as grants, running for Student Council and opportunities on campus. There are a whole host of clubs and sports teams students can join. FUSA also represents students, offering academic support and pushing for the rights and interests of students. Flinders University is known for its unique and innovative research, with this being supported by the Flinders New Venture Institute.It has been ranked in the top 2% of universities in the world and is number one in South Australia for teaching quality, undergraduate starting salary and student support. Some of its research strengths lie in biomedical and clinical sciences, health and medicine and engineering.
News
From 2023, Flinders University will host a new ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation. Partnering with the industry, this will train professionals for maritime, water and other industries. This $12.5 million investment will allow PhD students to improve water efficiently in the maritime and defence industries to support other sectors.
