University of Chester

The University of Chester is located in the heart of the city of Chester. The university was first established as a teacher training college, but has now expanded across 5 campus sites, with over 15,000 students. It was not until 2003 that the university was granted degree awarded powers, and in 2005 the university was awarded full university status.

    The University of Chester is ranked by the Guardian League Tables 2024 as 53rd out of 122 universities in the UK.

  • Employability

    96% of graduates from the University of Chester are either in employment or further study 6 months after graduating.

  • Fees

    For UK students, fees will be £9,250, however for international students these will increase to £13,450 for the 2024/25 academic year admissions. However the rate is dependant on the type of course and more information can be found here.

  • Bursaries

    The University of Chester aims to support all students who wish to study with them and therefore offer a range of scholarships and bursaries to support students.

Accommodation

The majority of university-owned and university partner accommodation is located either on campus or nearby the Parkgate Road Campus Chester or the Warrington Campus.

The University offers a range of accommodation types: Full Board comes with an en-suite bathroom and price starting at £185 per week; Self-Catered halls have en-suite and shared bathroom facilities, while their prices vary between £105 and £185 per week. Partnership accommodation is available too.

Students' Union

The University of Chester Students’ Union is located on the Chester campus, and is the student hub of the university. The Students’ Union is run by a team of elected officers who look to carry out the wishes of the student body and ensure that all students at the University of Chester are represented. As well as supporting student, the Students’ Union runs an array of social activities and societies that students are encouraged to take part in.

The University of Chester is recognised as being one of the best universities in the UK for international students. In the WhatUNi Student Choice awards 2020, the University of Chester ranked 2nd in the international students’ choice category. This is a recognition of the university's the longstanding commitment to supporting international students.

News

The University of Chester’s Moments Campaign has been shortlisted in the Best use of User Generated Content Category in the Edurank Think Student Awards. The Moments campaign was launched by the university last year, and it enables current students to share their experiences about university life to prospective students.
