The University of Leicester was founded in 1921 as a memorial to the Great War. Since then, it has been home to the invention of genetic fingerprinting and the discovery of King Richard III. The University currently has 20,000 students with over 150 different nationalities.

Students' Union

The University of Leicester is proud of its innovative and inclusive student-led Union that works independently from the University to ensure the best student experience possible. As well as boasting over 250 student groups and sports clubs, the Union offers CV boosting activities such as part-time work, training or volunteering.

The University won the first ever series of University Challenge in 1963. The campus’ College House was the childhood home of David and Richard Attenborough.

News

The University of Leicester is currently undergoing an ambitious £21 million refurbishment of its Student’s Union building. A new four-storey extension will house a food court, double the amount of space for social learning and will transform the building with a brand-new glazed façade.
