Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day on a Student Budget
Mother’s Day is this Sunday! It’s the perfect day to remind your mother how special she is. You don’t need to spend loads of money to show love – experiences and memories are the best. Pampering and relaxation are the best roads to go down. Here are our ideas for gifts that don’t always break the student budget. 1. Surprise her with a visit home It might be a busy deadline season, but if you can, surprise her with a visit home. Consider sending a decoy text or phone call in the morning, and then turn up on the doorstep with flowers. Brownie points for the year ahead. 2. Flowers Leading on from this – if you can’t get home to give her flowers, try having them delivered. Prices inflate around Mothering Sunday, so shop around for a good deal. A thoughtful alternative is a potted plant – orchids are special, and they last a long time. 3. Home-cooked dinner There’s nothing as special as making the effort to cook for your mum! If you've got the skills, whip up her favourite dinner. Don’t forget dessert. 4. Dinner at a restaurant If you’re not such a good cook, don’t invade the kitchen. Take your mum out for a lovely dinner. If you’re on a tight budget, plenty of places are offering deals for mothers – such as a free burger at the Handmade Burger Co. A sweet day time alternative is afternoon tea. Sandwiches, cakes and pots of tea. Yum. 5. Cocktails This depends on how well she’ll react to you knocking back a Sex On The Beach like it’s Ribena. But this can be a really fun evening, especially for a mother and daughter. Get dressed up together and take lots of photos. 6. Spa break This is definitely for those with a higher budget, but a spa day is ALWAYS a good idea. Send mum off for a day of massages, facials, Jacuzzis and dining. Sites like Groupon and Wowcher always offer great deals for this. Your mum definitely deserves the pampering! 7. A box of treats. An idea for all budgets. Take a nice box and fill it with little gifts, things you know she likes. Aim for things she can use to relax with. Maybe some gourmet coffee, chocolates, bath salts, wine? This gift shows lots of thought and effort.
