Everything you experience living in a student house

Whether you’re a current, previous, or future university student, living in a student house is a very common shared experience amongst people from a range of cities, campuses, and courses! So… What are the main things you could expect from living in a shared house with other students?
The lazy housemate!
Across all university houses and student accommodation, there’s always at least one person that never pulls their weight! Whether that’s never doing their washing up, making a mess in the kitchen, or never coming out of their room to socialise, you can count on having a few heated discussions with them in your house…
Bill troubles and confusion…
Living in a house with bills not included can make things tricky, especially when navigating bills, payments, and multiple housemates for the first time. It's a good experience to get to grips with this for your future but can certainly be a source of stress in the uni house!
Sharing space in the fridge + cupboards
Designating set spaces at the start of the year can be a good idea, but many people will completely disregard this from the get-go… From putting food in the wrong places, borrowing your plates or cutlery, and getting confused at the end of the year who’s bowls are who’s when everyone went to Ikea to get the same starter kit? Always fun…
Chaotic nights out…
Sharing a house with a range of personalities often means you’ll get people rarely going out and, on the other hand, those that want to head out to the club… Every. Single. Night. From loud pre-drinks, to messy house parties and random people in your kitchen at 1am, it’s safe to say if you’re not a party animal or studying for an exam, it can be a tense vibe that’s for sure.
DIY and quick fixes!
Things fall apart and break from time to time… But student houses can often feel like they’re falling apart, especially if you’ve never been responsible for your household upkeep at home! Whether you need to do some kitchen DIY whilst you wait for the landlord to come round, or you need to call the maintenance team to look at the mould in the bathroom as your flatmate refuses to crack open a window, you definitely need to think on your feet sometimes as a student with new responsibilities!
Passive aggression and stressed housemates
Especially around exam season or coursework deadlines, it can be a tense environment living with other students. If you’re all studying different courses, it can be hard to understand when others have deadlines or need to crack on with work in some peace and quiet… Especially if your course has already finished for the term or you don’t have any exams! They say communication is always key…!
