The university rankings for 2027 are officially here, and there are a few surprises this year!
The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027 has revealed the UK's top 10 universities, and some familiar names have been knocked down a few places. Yep... even Oxford and Cambridge haven't managed to grab the top spot this time.
Whether you're applying to uni, already studying or just curious to see where yours stands, keep reading to see who's made the cut.
The UK's Top 10 Universities for 2027
According to the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027, these are the universities leading the way this year:
- University of St Andrews
- London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)
- Imperial College London
- University of Cambridge
- University of Oxford
- Durham University
- University of Warwick
- University of Bath
- University of Strathclyde
- University of Bristol
So, did your uni make the list? Or are you already questioning some of these positions?
St Andrews Takes the Crown!
Taking first place this year is the University of St Andrews in Scotland, beating some of the biggest names in UK education.
Known for its beautiful coastal location, historic buildings and strong academic reputation, St Andrews has officially claimed the number one spot.
Meanwhile, LSE takes second place, with Imperial College London coming in third.
Imperial has also been named University of the Year for 2027, so they're definitely having a good year!
Oxford and Cambridge Miss Out on the Top Three
Probably one of the biggest surprises is seeing Oxford and Cambridge outside the top three.
Cambridge comes in fourth, followed by Oxford in fifth. They're still among the highest-ranked universities in the country of course, but it's interesting to see other unis taking the lead.
Another name worth mentioning is the University of Strathclyde, which has climbed into ninth place this year.

But do rankings really matter?
Let's be honest, getting into a top 10 university is impressive, but rankings definitely aren't everything. Your university experience is about much more than where your uni sits on a league table. Think about the course you're studying, the people you meet, the city you live in and whether you actually enjoy being there. A university might rank highly for its academic performance, but that doesn't automatically mean it's going to be the perfect fit for everyone.
And what about the students themselves?
Universities students rated the University of Bristol most highly for their overall experience in terms of student satisfaction. Here you can find out what other universities rated highly - it's worth a read, especially if you're trying to decide where to study!
Did your uni make the cut?
Now for the important question: do you actually agree with these rankings?
Maybe your university has made the top 10 and you're feeling pretty pleased. Or maybe yours is nowhere to be seen, even though you think it deserves a spot.
We want to know:
Did your university make the top 10?
Do you agree with St Andrews taking first place?
Which university do you think deserves a higher ranking?
After all, nobody knows what a university is really like as well as the students studying there.
