Let’s be honest: living with other students can be great… until it comes to cleaning. According to recent feedback, 69.7% of students said they’d find a cleaning service useful, while only 16% said no, and 14.3% weren’t sure. So why are so many of us secretly dreaming of someone else scrubbing the bathroom?
- Convenience is everything
Between lectures, coursework, society meetings, and part-time jobs, a lot of us barely have time to cook, let alone deep-clean a kitchen that six people have destroyed in 24 hours. A cleaning service feels like the ultimate time-saver.
- Flatmate frustrations are real
Most of us have lived with that one flatmate who thinks a bin takes itself out or that mould is “natural”. Shared spaces get messy fast, and not everyone pulls their weight. It's one of the main reasons arguments break out — so a cleaning service can basically save friendships.
- Hygiene actually matters
As much as we joke about “student kitchens”, no one actually wants to live in a biohazard. Regular cleaning makes the space feel fresher, healthier, and way less stressful.
But not everyone wants one, here’s why:
Even though most students like the idea, not everyone’s sold on bringing in cleaners.
- Cost is a huge deal
A lot of students don’t want to pay extra for something that feels like a luxury. Rent is already outrageous — adding another cost isn’t realistic for everyone.
- Privacy worries
Some students just don’t feel comfortable having strangers come into their space, especially if they’re not home. Totally fair.
- “We’ve got this” energy
And of course, there are the organised ones — the people who actually clean regularly (we admire you). If they’re already keeping things tidy, a cleaning service seems unnecessary.
