Your guide to Clearing
Clearing can seem like a stressful and nerve-wracking process, particularly when you need to also find accommodation at a new university which may be something you hadn't planned for. However, the most important thing is to not panic! Most people are able to find accommodation right here on AFS without any problems.
Even though it may seem quite late, there is still a good amount of accommodation available in most cities. It is also important to remember that private accommodation is a great option if you can't get university accommodation. Private halls are generally a bit higher in spec whilst living in a shared house or flat is a classic part of any UK university experience.
Satisfied students
Our research has shown that those who found accommodation during clearing were just as satisfied as everyone else, so don't feel like you are going to lose out.
You must remain patient when searching for accommodation as the most important thing is to find a place that is right for you. With it being a busy time of year, landlords and letting agents may take a little longer to get back to you, so don't be afraid to follow up with them.

Busy cities
Some cities such as Bristol, York, Glasgow and Edinburgh have become increasingly competitive over the last few years when it comes to finding housing.
Remember your university accommodation office is available to support you, and you could also consider consider getting somewhere to stay for a few weeks in the city whilst you search for a long-term let. Sometimes rooms become available when students don’t turn up or they drop out and you are in a good place to take advantage of this if you are already there. This will also give our team more time to help you find the right place for you.
