Overview

Your university experience is shaped by the people you meet and the friendships you make. Heathfield offers the facilities you’d find in a hall of residence, but in the friendly and supportive atmosphere of a student house. Once through the secure main entrance, you can visit throughout the building. Our popular and affordable accommodation is designed to foster the kind of friendships that will enrich and support you through uni and beyond. Here at Heathfield you will meet students at the University of East Anglia, Norwich University of the Arts, and other higher education institutions in the city, from Y0 to post-graduate. The mix of ages and subjects means that you will get an education as well as a degree! Heathfield is located between the city centre and Mousehold Heath. NUA and central Norwich are some 15 minutes’ walk away. Buses for UEA leave from the railway station, about 10 minutes’ walk away. There are shops nearby. What's at Heathfield? The 44 rooms are arranged in 6 flats of 6, 7 or 8 rooms. Each bedroom has: • a large desk, a desk chair, a good-quality desk lamp, a large notice-board, a set of bookshelves, a single bed and a 3-drawer chest of drawers • a washbasin (with mirror, light and shaver point), plentiful built-in storage space, and an adjustable radiator to keep the room cosy • a data point for Heathfield’s dedicated top-quality internet connection (1Gb) provided by industry-leader Glide, in addition to secure wifi throughout the building (you can buy access to extra services, e.g. TV, direct from Glide). Each flat has: • two shower rooms, each equipped with a high-quality shower cubicle in a spacious shower room. • two toilets • a student lounge/kitchen One of the flats is fully wheelchair accessible, and one flat is for women only. The unusually large and welcoming student lounges offer plenty of space to sit and chat with your flatmates and guests, who are of course welcome to visit you at Heathfield. Each self-catering kitchen provides: • two sinks • two cookers with 4 rings, separate grill and oven • two fridge-freezers with allocated shelves and drawers • a lockable cupboard for each student • microwave, kettle and toaster • basic crockery, cutlery, pans and utensils. Before you buy too much kitchen equipment, see if you can share stuff with your flatmates. What shared spaces does Heathfield offer? • The Garden Room provides a dedicated study room for quiet work or work in small groups. • The Heathfield Centre (a large room, 14m x 12m), is available free of charge to residents for informal use at any time when it has not been booked for an event. It is equipped with two pianos, a table tennis table and a home cinema as well as folding tables and chairs. It is covered by a TV licence. It has kitchenette facilities and 2 dedicated accessible WCs. It offers space for meetings, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, parties or other events, and is occasionally booked by outside groups that might be of interest to our residents. It has also been used for photoshoots, an exhibition of sculpture and for choir rehearsals. • The art studio where you can do messy work without causing harm to your deposit! • A south-facing central private garden. The Heathfield Centre and the Garden room offer an extensive and wide-ranging library available for residents. What other amenities does Heathfield offer? • A laundry room with coin-operated washing-machines, a dryer, and an iron. While Covid remains a concern, the laundry is free to use. • Free parking for visitors and free secure bicycle storage. We make a small charge for a permanent car parking space. • The woods and green spaces of Mousehold Heath are just up the hill. How do I apply to Heathfield? We think it is really important that you come and visit before you commit to a contract. Come and see what we offer – you can book a viewing via the website. If you are coming from abroad and you will not be able to visit before you start your studies we offer a Try Before You Buy option. This allows you to stay for a week and decide if Heathfield is right for you. There is more detail about Try Before You Buy on our website. We start signing up new tenants from January each year.
