Is your student property in the right zone?
Location, location, location has long been the mantra of property investors - and now there’s a new service that shows that all important factor off to the full. Students looking for the right place to live that’s just a short distance from campus and close to entertainment can see just how close housing is to where they want be with the help of a new map service. Landlords can buy the maps from an online service that calculates travel zones from a designated postcode for use on property listings, leaflets and web sites. The maps - available from web site Mapumental [LINK: http://shop.mapumental.com/ ] - can be programmed to offer travel zones from the target destination, starting at a maximum of 30 minutes away up to 180 minutes away. The example map [attached] centres on Cardiff University and details travel zones at 15 minute increments from the campus. The inner red zone highlights all properties within 15 minutes travel of the campus. Each change of colour moving away from the university adds another 15 minutes to the public transport commute. Students do not want to commute for more than 30 minutes to campus should rent in the two central red and amber zones. Those who do not mind adding an extra 15 minutes could consider homes in the yellow zone as well. The maps are prepared from analysing public transport timetables and travel data. Ten standard 1200 x 1200 pixel maps cost £25 each, and come with a licence for use on web sites. Besides showing public transport travel times to students, the maps also let landlords check whether a new student house is located near good travel links. Source: http://shop.mapumental.com/
