The National Residential Landlords Association are stepping up their efforts to mitigate the impact of the Renters’ Reform bill on student landlords.
Critical role of off street student accommodation
Ben Beadle, Chief Executive of the association is set to highlight the importance of the accommodation private landlords provide, particularly in the context of the huge growth in student numbers that is forecast.
Fixed term tenancies
The letter will highlight the difficulties the proposed changes will make and spell out some of the ways the NRLA believe the bill should be amended to produce a workable solution for student landlords, including;
- The ability for student landlords to issue two month’s notice to existing tenants to fall at the end of the final term of the academic year
- A mandatory 6 months moratorium on tenants serving notice
In support of their proposals the NRLA highlight the situation in Scotland, where the introduction of open ended tenancies has resulted in a contraction of the private rented sector and has had a particular impact on the availablity of off street accommodation for students.
