Leeds Conservatoire

Leeds Conservatoire is a specialist higher education institution offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in music and performing arts. Founded in 1965 as Leeds Music Centre, it later became Leeds College of Music before adopting its current name in 2020. Based at Quarry Hill in Leeds’ cultural quarter, it brings together musicians, actors, producers and performers, with practical training and opportunities to collaborate across disciplines.

For 2026 entry, international undergraduate fees are £20,900 for music and £21,300 for drama. Postgraduate fees vary by programme.   • Bursaries

    For eligible home undergraduates starting in 2026, the Leeds Conservatoire Bursary offers £800 for household incomes up to £25,000, or £400 for incomes between £25,001 and £42,875. Entitlement is assessed automatically using income-assessed Student Finance information. Music and Drama Excellence Scholarships range from £1,000 to £7,500, recognising exceptional ability or potential at audition. Check each scheme’s eligibility and conditions for your entry year.

Accommodation

Joseph Stones House sits directly above the conservatoire’s St Peter’s Square building and is owned and managed by Unite Students. It offers en-suite rooms in shared flats and a small number of studios. Published 2026/27 rents range from £182 to £258 per week on 43-week contracts, depending on room type. Famous for

Leeds Conservatoire is known for its pioneering approach to music education, launching Europe’s first jazz degree in 1993. Its training now spans music and drama, supported by partnerships with organisations including Opera North and Leeds Playhouse, connecting students with professional practice.

News

In September 2026, Leeds Conservatoire announced a production of The Odyssey with Leeds Playhouse, scheduled for 15–17 October at the Quarry Theatre. Featuring conservatoire students, the production combines live music and movement, giving performers experience of bringing a large-scale story to a professional theatre stage.
