Fees
For the 2026/27 academic year, tuition fees for full-time undergraduates with home fee status are £9,790. Fees for new international undergraduates range from £28,900 to £39,900 per year, depending on the programme. Postgraduate fees vary by course and fee status, so students should check the LSE Table of Fees for their degree and year of entry. Living costs should also be factored into the budget. LSE currently recommends allowing at least £1,550 per month for accommodation, travel, food, laundry, study costs and other personal expenses, although the amount needed will depend on individual circumstances. Further information is available on its fees and funding page.
Bursaries
The LSE Bursary provides non-repayable support for eligible undergraduates with home fee status. For students who began their degree in 2025/26 or later, awards range from £1,250 to £4,250 per year for assessed household incomes of up to £50,000. Different rates apply to students who started earlier. Eligibility is normally assessed using financial information shared by Student Finance with the student’s consent, without a separate LSE bursary application. Additional help includes the LSE Accommodation Bursary. For 2026/27, awards ranged from £750 to £2,750 for eligible new first-year UK undergraduates who met the financial, application and qualifying-hall requirements. LSE also offers support for care experienced and estranged students and a range of scholarships and financial support for overseas undergraduates. Students should check the eligibility criteria and deadlines for each award.
Accommodation
LSE accommodation includes university-managed halls, University of London intercollegiate residences and selected private halls across London. Students can choose from catered and self-catered accommodation, with room types, facilities and contract lengths varying between residences. As halls are spread across different neighbourhoods, it is worth comparing the journey to campus alongside the rent and facilities. New undergraduates and General Course students who make LSE their firm choice are covered by the accommodation booking guarantee, provided they book by the relevant deadline. For 2026/27, this was 9 June 2026. Bookings after the deadline depend on availability, and places are not guaranteed for postgraduate or continuing students. Students can compare room types and contracts, check accommodation costs, and follow LSE’s booking guidance. Those looking beyond university halls can also explore student accommodation in London through Accommodation for Students.

Famous for
LSE is known for its specialist focus on the social sciences and its influence on debates about economics, politics and society. Its former students include B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, who completed postgraduate studies at LSE. Its connections also extend into arts and broadcasting. Sir David Attenborough and Mick Jagger both studied at the university, although neither completed their programme: Attenborough studied social anthropology, while Jagger studied accounting before pursuing his music career.

In March 2026, LSE secured planning approval for the redevelopment of Bankside House into a student residence with 1,945 bed spaces.
