University College London (UCL)
Founded in 1826, University College London, usually known as UCL, is home to around 51,000 students from more than 150 countries. Its undergraduate and postgraduate courses cover a broad range of subjects, from medicine and engineering to law, education and the arts. A history of questioning established ideas continues to shape its approach to teaching and research. UCL’s original campus is in Bloomsbury, central London, surrounded by museums, libraries, cafés and garden squares. Its newer UCL East campus sits in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, bringing teaching and research into a different part of the city. With student societies, cultural activities and London itself to explore, there are plenty of opportunities to build a university experience around your interests.

UCL ranks joint eighth in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2027, marking its 15th consecutive year in the global top ten. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, it takes first place globally for Education and for Architecture and the Built Environment, with 12 subject areas ranked in the world’s top ten.
Employability
UCL Careers helps students explore career options, develop their skills and prepare for applications, interviews and assessment centres. Through myUCLCareers, you can book appointments and events, access careers resources and search for part-time work, internships and graduate opportunities. Support continues for up to three years after your course ends, giving you time to explore different routes and get advice as your plans develop.
Fees
For students starting in 2027/28, UCL lists Home undergraduate tuition fees at £10,050 for the first year. International undergraduate fees vary by course, while postgraduate fees depend on your programme and fee status. Check the amount for your course and year of entry using UCL’s tuition fee schedules. Home fees may increase in later years. Most international undergraduate courses have a fee guarantee for the duration of the programme, although exceptions and conditions apply.
Bursaries
The UCL Undergraduate Bursary provides financial support that does not need to be repaid. For eligible full-time students starting in 2026/27, awards range from £1,000 to £3,000 per year, depending on assessed household income. Students must meet UCL’s Home fee and UK residency requirements, with a household income of £42,875 or less. Accommodation
UCL Accommodation offers halls in central and east London, with different room types, locations and prices. Rent includes utilities and Wi-Fi, and the residential life programme runs activities to help students settle in and meet others. UCL publishes an accommodation guarantee for eligible full-time, first-year undergraduates studying at UCL for the first time. Conditions include making UCL your firm choice, applying by the relevant deadline and meeting its previous residence and study requirements. Check the full criteria for your year of entry before making plans. For private halls, flats and house shares, AFS has a range of student accommodation in London. Start by checking where your course is taught, particularly if you’ll be based at UCL East, and compare rent, bills and travel costs together.

Students' Union
Students’ Union UCL gives students plenty of ways to meet people and get involved beyond their course. Membership is automatic when you join UCL, with more than 400 student-led groups covering sport, culture, academic interests, creative activities and more. The Union also offers volunteering opportunities, events, cafés and bars, while elected representatives help shape decisions affecting students. Its independent advice service provides free, confidential and impartial support with housing, money, employment and academic issues. Whether you’re looking for a new hobby or help with a problem, it’s a useful place to start.


Famous for
UCL has a history of widening access to education, beginning with its decision to admit students regardless of religion. It is also known for influential research and teaching across fields including medicine, education, architecture and the sciences. Its alumni and current and former staff include 33 Nobel Prize laureates, among them artificial intelligence pioneer Sir Demis Hassabis. Other notable alumni include filmmaker Christopher Nolan, producer Emma Thomas, Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu and artist Rachel Whiteread.
