Living in Bath as a student

The Roman city of Bath has a wealth of stunning buildings and scenery, with the beautiful Mendip Hills, the Cotswolds and the charming Severn Estuary close at hand. Bath is one of the most visited cities in the country and even in the 19th century, it’s been a fashionable spot, inspiring Jane Austen to move there and write two of her famous novels. Literature lovers can retrace her steps by visiting the Jane Austen Centre or taking part in The Jane Austen Festival. To move even further back in time, the ancient Roman Baths are a must-see, and the visit could be followed by a session in the Thermae Spa, where you can enjoy a soak in Britain’s only natural steaming water.

Its history is not the only thing Bath has to offer. For 70 years now Bath has been hosting The Bath Festival, celebrating its heritage of literature and music festivals, but shying away from political or feminist debates. It’s also home to the Bath Rugby Team, among many other sports clubs, which gives the fans a reason to visit many of the local pubs during the season.
