Nottingham vs Trent: Battle of the Universities
It’s time for a battle of the universities! This time, it’s the University of Nottingham vs Nottingham Trent University (NTU)… Who are you rooting for? And who do you think will win? Let’s find out based on a number of different student factors…
League Table Rankings:
According to the latest 2024 Guardian university rankings, Trent tops Nottingham by a good few points, with 16 ranks between them! NTU comes in at 42nd, whilst Nottingham positions at 59th. This might suggest that Trent has a slightly better teaching quality or academic strength as a university, but league tables are only the tip of the iceberg!
Campus and Location:
Trent’s campus is situated in the heart of the main city, with quick and easy access to popular student bars, clubs, facilities, and more. The University of Nottingham, however, is a bit further out, but still well-connected via public transport. This difference in connectivity to main student hubs and nightlife puts another point to Trent’s name.
Sports and Competitions:
With the University of Nottingham making a comeback here, Trent ranks at 7th in the British Universities and Colleges Sport table rankings, with Nottingham flying ahead in 2nd place! They are known to excel in a diverse range of sports, which always makes for a fun student experience to get involved with.
Careers and Employability:
The University of Nottingham actually ranks 10th in the UK and 66th globally in the Graduate Employability Rankings, whereas Trent doesn’t make the top 250. For students, particularly in competitive areas like engineering or law professions, Nottingham might be more attractive as a university for their graduate prospects!
Courses and Subject Specialties:
Known for more niche and hands-on courses, Trent offers speciality areas such as journalism and business, often with integrated course-related work experience. Nottingham, on the other hand, specialises in more traditional and prestigious courses, which could make deciding between the two down to personal preference and course interests.
So both sound like great universities! But which takes your top spot? I think the best way to decide on the best university for you is to think about as many factors as possible, as well as visiting for open days and offer holder days- that way you can really get a feel for the campus, course, and accommodation, helping you to make the right choice for you.
