Your university experience is shaped by the people you meet and the friendships you make. Here at Heathfield we welcome both home and international students. We offer affordable accommodation designed to foster lasting and enriching friendships among our student residents. We offer 44 rooms in 6 flats, and the residents are a mix of students of different ages attending the University of East Anglia and Norwich University of the Arts as well as other Higher Education institutions in the city. What's at Heathfield Your bedroom is furnished with a large desk, a desk chair,a good-quality desk lamp, a large notice-board, a set of bookshelves,a single bed and a 3-drawer chest of drawers. Each room has a washbasin (with light and shaver point) surrounded by further plentiful built-in storage space. The adjustable radiators keep the rooms cosy. Top-quality internet connectivity (up to 1Gb from September 2020) is provided by Glide, with a data point in each bedroom and secure wifi throughout the building. Wifi access is included in the rent, and you can buy access to extra services (e.g. TV) direct from Glide. The six flats have 6, 7 or 8 rooms. There are two shower rooms in each flat, each equipped with plenty of hooks, a small step stool and a bathmat. Each flat also has two toilets. The unusually large and welcoming student lounges in each flat offer plenty of space to sit and chat with your flatmates and guests, who are of course welcome to visit you at Heathfield. The self-catering kitchens provide for each 4 students: • Sink • Cooker with 4 rings and an oven • Fridge-freezer with shelf each • Lockable cupboard for their own belongings. Each kitchen has a microwave, a kettle and a toaster. Basic crockery, cutlery, pans and utensils are provided. Before you buy too much kitchen equipment, see if you can share stuff with your flatmates. Please note that TVs are not provided. You are welcome to decide as a flat to have a TV in the lounge. However, please be aware that whether you are watching TV in your own room or in the lounge, you must arrange to have a valid TV licence. Full details will be in your welcome pack. The Garden Room provides a dedicated study room for quiet work or work in small groups. The laundry room has coin-operated washing-machines and a dryer. An iron is also available. Outside, secure bicycle storage is provided free of charge. There is an enclosed south-facing central garden, and there are spacious grounds around the building. The building also includes the Heathfield Centre. This is a large room, (14m x 12m), with kitchenette facilities and 2 dedicated WCs suitable for disabled people. It is available free of charge to residents for informal use at any time when it has not been booked for an event. The room offers space for meetings, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, parties or other events. It is equipped with two pianos, a table tennis table and a home cinema as well as folding tables and chairs. It is covered by a TV licence. Residents can book the Heathfield Centre for £20 for events connected with their studies or other academic purposes, for parties or for meetings. This charge is for cleaning and deposit: if the Centre is left in good condition all of the deposit will be returned. The Centre can be accessed independently of the student accommodation if an outside event is being held. It has also been used for photoshoots, an exhibition of sculpture and for choir rehearsals. Finally there is an art studio where messy work can be done without causing harm to your deposit! What if I sign up for a room and the coronavirus pandemic means that the 2020-2021 academic year is delayed or cancelled? When you apply for a room at Heathfield for the 2020-2021 academic year we will reserve one for you. We will process the tenancy in the normal way and ask you to sign a tenancy agreement and provide a guarantor. BUT in recent days we have all seen the coronavirus emergency erupt into our daily lives and our plans for the future. In this uncertainty we want to reassure you about your tenancy here. We will hold your room for you until the end of June. Please make contact with us at the start of July, so we can consider how matters have developed and what you are thinking of doing. We will release you from your contract and any obligation to Heathfield if you cannot study in Norwich in September or if you change your mind because of the pandemic. Whatever documents you have signed, this promise overrides them! Please do not pay the deposit until after we have had that discussion in July.
